Indian railway evolution

As we know that Indian railway is the integral part of our country and its history is of 160 years around. First time rail ran in between Bombay to thane after covering of 21 mile distance. Before 1843 there were no any single kilometers of railway line in India. Development of railway infrastructure progressed gradually with respect to time. Little bit changes happened in railway system by using technical support of English engineer whose name “Jorge Clarke”. Later on this activity continued to till date. The formal inauguration ceremony was performed on 16th April 1853, when 14 railway carriages carrying about 400 guests left Bori Bunder at 3.30 pm “amidst the loud applause of a vast multitude and to the salute of 21 guns.” The first passenger train steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hooghly, a distance of 24 miles, on 15th August, 1854. Thus the first section of the East Indian Railway was opened to public traffic, inaugurating the beginning of railway transport on the Eastern side of the sub-continent. In south the first line was opened on IST July, 1856 by the Madras Railway Company. It ran between Vyasarpadi Jeeva Nilayam (Veyasarpandy) and Walajah Road (Arcot), a distance of 63 miles. In the North a length of 119 miles of line was laid from Allahabad to Kanpur on 3rd March 1859. The first section from Hathras Road to Mathura Cantonment was opened to traffic on 19th October, 1875.
These were the small beginnings which is due course developed into a network of railway lines all over the country. By 1880 the Indian Railway system had a route mileage of about 9000 miles. INDIAN RAILWAYS, the premier transport organization of the country is the largest rail network in Asia and the world’s second largest under one management.

Same activity carried on till the India freedom (15 august 1947). After getting the freedom India took whole responsibility to development of Indian railway. Along with time changes railways department changes their infrastructure in positive manner. After getting freedom, initially technology of our country was not good so it took help from another country like: Russia, Germany and UK also. Latter on technology were developed gradually and development were continued and it is carry on at present also. Initially Indian trains were run from the coal due to which our environment was polluted and it was not well for our country economy and natural resources. Furthermore, it was difficult process for running the train, after few years diesel engine were introduced and it was easier than before but costly. Yet, this service was good and more echo friendly as compare to coal engine. And in the present scenario train is running with electricity and it is much echo friendly as compare to all before methodology to run the train. Our scientist and engineer are thinking to implement solar system in Indian railway to run the train in smooth and efficient manner.

For improving the Indian railway ministry launched several scheme and private organization like IRCTC. IRCTC assisted much and more to run the Indian railway department smoothly. IRCTC given so many facilities to public like:-online booking, tourism facility and catering facility that makes easily use of Indian railway publicly.

At present, all pictures have been changed because of advanced Information Technology. Every sector of working department is implemented with computer and internet and our railway department is included in this category. Now a days several activity happen by computerized system like- train monitoring, online ticket booking, online train inquiry, live train running status and many more activity with modern Information Technology.

I hope that in future, our Indian rail will run through solar system and highly advanced technology, and it will be easy to use publicly.
